NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Franklin International Indie Film Festival (FIIFF) has tapped Nashville recording artist Irenka to close out the festival with the premiere of the music video for her self-penned single “Dreamland” and a theatrical dance performance. The festival takes place at The Factory at Franklin on November 9-14. See here for the full festival schedule: https://www.fiiff.org/about-1.
The single “Dreamland” tells Irenka’s story of personal resilience and hope, and leaving her homeland behind to pursue her dreams. Irenka, who is half-American and half-Czech, grew up in Brussels, Belgium. But she always dreamed of pursuing a successful music career in the United States. In 2012, she packed her bags and bought a one-way ticket to Nashville.
After moving to the U.S. and recording “Dreamland”, filming a music video that she would star in made sense to this multi-talented artist. The final product is a marriage of poetry, music, black lights, glow-in-the-dark body paint, and modern dance featuring an otherworldly being in a sailboat on rough seas, sailing to their “dreamland”. Irenka describes the music video as a collision of musical expression, choreographed dance, and visual art that illustrates the challenges she encountered after moving to the United States.

Irenka directed the music video, which was filmed at a Louisville, Kentucky studio. It was produced it on a shoe-string, crowd-funded budget, which required Irenka and her production team to be resourceful and creative with the set design. They built the boat out of cardboard and used mosquito netting to make the sail.
During the FIIFF’s closing night awards ceremony, Irenka will perform “Dreamland” live, backed by a theatrical dance production featuring Helios, an international dance troupe based in Nashville. The performance takes place on November 14th at 6pm, inside The Factory at Franklin.
